Welcome! It is easy to fall in love with these ellusive creatures of the Western plains. They roam freely in sage prairies and canyons in numerous areas of Wyoming. The wild mustangs are left to fight and breed—live and die on the range with little intervention by humans. Ungroomed their entire lives, their manes and tails can get long and majestic or tangled and braided.
Large herds consist of smaller bands, each held together and agressively defended by the dominant stallion. Fights break out as younger stallions try to pick off their own mares. There are no rules of engagement. Scars, swolen joints and even exposed bones are evidence of previous battles.
